What is Holy?

“No one should fear to undertake any task in the name of our Saviour,
if it is just and if the intention is purely for His holy service.”

Christopher Columbus

I had a thought the other day about the Ark and the Temple. Many people believe that Solomon’s Temple must be rebuilt on the Temple Mount before the end of the world, but does it really have to be built at this one geographic location? The temple was special primarily because it housed The Ark of The Covenant. When the Israelites were in the desert following the escape from Egypt, the Ark traveled with them and the Tabernacle served as the Temple.

My question is does the Temple make the Ark Holy, or does the Ark make the Temple (Tabernacle) Holy? I believe this is an important question to answer. Is the Ark of The Covenant Holy by virtue of where it is, or does the presence of the Ark make the location it is at Holy? If the Ark makes the location Holy, then the location of the Temple becomes less important.

Has the Temple already been rebuilt? The Ark of The Covenant resides in a section of the Temple called The Holy of Holies. This room is made Holy because of the presence of God, not because of being located at any particular physical location on Earth. So, it stands to reason that if the Ark still exists today, then wherever it is, that place is Holy. Wherever the Ark is currently located, that “room” is the Holy of Holies, due to the presence of the Ark and God.

The Ark of God makes the Temple a Holy place. The Temple does not make the Ark of God Holy. So, if the Ark still exists, then it would be reasonable to assume that the Temple could already be rebuilt, just waiting for us to find it.
